Magical Summer Verse

Magical SummerFashion Trends & Styles - Polyvore

"A Something in a Summer's Day"

A something in a summer's Day
As slow her flambeaux burn away
Which solemnizes me.

A something in a summer's noon --
A depth -- an Azure -- a perfume --
Transcending ecstasy.

And still within a summer's night
A something so transporting bright
I clap my hands to see --

Then veil my too inspecting face
Lets such a subtle -- shimmering grace
Flutter too far for me --

The wizard fingers never rest --
The purple brook within the breast
Still chafes it narrow bed --

Still rears the East her amber Flag --
Guides still the sun along the Crag
His Caravan of Red --

So looking on -- the night -- the morn
Conclude the wonder gay --
And I meet, coming thro' the dews
Another summer's Day!

-Emily Dickinson

"A Summer Day"

I
The dawn laughs out on orient hills
And dances with the diamond rills;
The ambrosial wind but faintly stirs
The silken, beaded gossamers;
In the wide valleys, lone and fair,
Lyrics are piped from limpid air,
And, far above, the pine trees free
Voice ancient lore of sky and sea.
Come, let us fill our hearts straightway
With hope and courage of the day.

II
Noon, hiving sweets of sun and flower,
Has fallen on dreams in wayside bower,
Where bees hold honeyed fellowship
With the ripe blossom of her lip;
All silent are her poppied vales
And all her long Arcadian dales,
Where idleness is gathered up
A magic draught in summer's cup.
Come, let us give ourselves to dreams
By lisping margins of her streams.

III
Adown the golden sunset way
The evening comes in wimple gray;
By burnished shore and silver lake
Cool winds of ministration wake;
O'er occidental meadows far
There shines the light of moon and star,
And sweet, low-tinkling music rings
About the lips of haunted springs.
In quietude of earth and air
'Tis meet we yield our souls to prayer.

-Lucy Maud Montgomery

"Moonlight, Summer Moonlight"

'Tis moonlight, summer moonlight,
All soft and still and fair;
The solemn hour of midnight
Breathes sweet thoughts everywhere,

But most where trees are sending
Their breezy boughs on high,
Or stooping low are lending
A shelter from the sky.

And there in those wild bowers
A lovely form is laid;
Green grass and dew-steeped flowers
Wave gently round her head.

Book Bag It: Great Backpack Deal Alert

Soon you’ll likely be putting away your beach bag & sunscreen in turn for your backpack & pencil pouch. Yes, back-to-school time is in the air & on store shelves, & I want to alert you to a GREAT deal from Staples office & supply store! From now until July 31st (i.e.: hurry=) purchase any backpack & get your moola (all of it) back in the form of a Staples Gift Card! So, if you’re in need of a new satchel for your books or gym clothes or whatever…I recommend giving the Staples deal a thought. This deal is available in store, online, or by phone. One rebate per family.

I just came back from my local Staples store to check this deal out for myself. The majority of their backpacks were pricey, but most were on sale at my local store. I ended up purchasing a Jansport backpack (with a lifetime guarantee!). Yes, even though I’m out of school a backpack can still come in handy. After purchase you have to fill out a form online or by mail (through sending in your receipt) to get your 100% rebate in the form of a Staples Gift Card. Also, while at Staples I got two 8 packs of Bic pens for 1 penny each (all you had to do for this deal was make a minimum purchase of $5 (which I did with my backpack); limit 2 per person). They’ve also got a few quarter deals, too!

Hurry this deal ends July 31st!

Announcing Bess’ 1st Girls Night at the Movies!

Hi girls! I’m back from my trip to visit my grandma & boy am I tired! She did have a great birthday I’m happy to report! She’s 96 & sharp as a tack! Thankfully I left before my grandma could do any matchmaking (at least in person). She’s one of those that always ask if I’ve met anyone yet. Oh, grandma! Yep, my single-self still loves her. =)

Summer’s winding down & what better than to celebrate these last school-free, sunny days with a movie night for just us girls! So, without further ado, I’m proud to announce Bess’ Bag’s first ever Girls Night at the movies! Here’s the invite:

This sweet film about a backwoods girl with a spirit that can’t be beat will warm your heart! Debbie Reynolds stars in this, the first, Tammy movie, while Sandra Dee takes over the role in the later 2 movies. Walter Brennan (I just love his voice! Strange I know!), along with a young Leslie Neilson also star. I hope you’ll join me for Bess’ Bag’s 1st ever summer Movie Night (psst: just for girls=)! Fast Food Muse Tutorial: Ice Cream Soda Bib Necklace

Okay, so the weather is HOT & nothing sounds so good as melt in your mouth - or melt anywhere other than Antarctica & the old freezer – ice cream… Ah, I’ve always loved ice cream! Now I love it even more! =)

So, remember quite a few posts back, I told you a little about a mini road trip my mom & I took earlier in the summer. Remember? Well, anyways, on this trip we took a couple normal stops along the way for a bite to eat & to stretch our legs, etc. We found ourselves in a couple fast food places. The first stop was McDonalds for breakfast. While there I picked up a couple of items that I’ll be using later for another crafty creation. On the way home we stopped at a gas station that – bless ‘em – had a Baskin Robbins attached! That’s the best ever use of a too large petrol stop in my opinion! No, we didn’t get ice cream, but I confiscated, I mean I helped myself to a few free souvenirs, that I just thought might prove interesting in crafting endeavors…& I think I proved myself right! =) Be on the lookout for more Fast Food Muse Tutorials!

Bess’ Handy Dictionary Definition
Muse: “a source of inspiration; any of the nine sister goddesses in Greek mythology presiding over the arts” (Merriam Webster says it better than I can this time.=) (www.merriam-webster.com)

Who knew that a straw from a famous ice cream place could be so inspirational, not to mention useful outside of more than a tool to eat cool treats!

-Ice Cream Soda Bib Necklace Tutorial-

What You Need:
3 Straws (at least) (refer to the picture for the measurements to the necklace I made)
Thread (I used white)
Sharp Sewing Needle
Scissors
Jewelry Clasp
Ruler

What To Do:
First off, Baskin Robbins happens to have the prettiest pink straws around, but if you can’t get your hands on ‘em, you could use regular straws & spray paint ‘em a certain color, or even leave ‘em au natural. I happened to use only (& all of=) 3 straws for my necklace, but that’s because that’s the number I picked up (before I knew how amazing they were), but you could definitely experiment styles with more straws or even create bracelets, etc. with extras. Take your thread & measure it out to how long you want your necklace to be (I always leave a little extra, as a rule). NOTE: Though this is a very lightweight necklace, I went ahead & used 3 lengths of thread for extra hold. Thread your needle. Begin to pierce the longer pieces of straw (in order) onto your needle & thread (leave a little space above piercing for best results). After you’ve pierced & threaded the last of the longer straws, begin to regularly thread (no needle required=) the smaller side beads (my necklace has 8 smaller beads on each side of the bib section). The last small bead on each side I went through again & tied for hold. Then attach your clasp mechanism (I just used something I had lying around). Ta da! So cute! Lightweight! Perfect Price! Lovely!

Stay tuned in the next day or so, for the McDonalds’ fast food amusement!

Love,
-Bess-
